A Note on Further Updates
2026-09-28CW: Loss Hello, thank you all so much for playing our game, and extra thanks if you took time to email me - quite a few people have asked about updates. Cake Bash was made by only two full time developers, myself and Clément Capart, the best programmer and designer I've ever known - thanks to the quality of his work I can understand why people might think a much larger team were involved. Clem passed away in August 2024 after a three year struggle against cancer, but he wouldn't want to be remembered that way. Part of the reason it took me so long to say anything is because he was such a private person - he never wanted anyone to worry about him, and some of his friends only found out he was sick when he was already gone.

As his best friend and partner, it was such an honour to be part of his life. He was one of the kindest people in the world, and the things he left in this world are so precious to me - his handwritten notes, the little drawings he made, our games. He was a workaholic, and I know he would want to be remembered through what he made - Cake Bash, and Seashell, (our second title after his diagnosis). I want both of them to stay as they were. Working with him side by side for years was one of the best times of my life, and Cake Bash is still very much loved, more than anyone might realise. I've not abandoned it, I just don't want to change it. I'll do my best to make sure everything works, but I won't be adding anything new without him. I want to preserve what we made together. I hope you understand and his games can continue to make people smile all over the world. Your fan art and emails are incredible - I have a pinboard now which motivates me to keep going and continue creating. I hope I'll make him proud by eventually finishing the third game we started together. "I think our next game is going to be great and memorable for a lot of people once we get it done! I just need to deal with a few things with my health first, and then we’ll be all good." Games provided a lifeline to him when he got too unwell to go outside. He was most looking forward to Silksong. I know he would have loved it. I miss him every day and will do my best to finish what we started. I hope you can still continue to enjoy Cake Bash as it is. Thank you all for your support and kindness, Laura
