The game's just bad. The activities are very samey and repetitive. There's no story, no character interaction so quests will become boring very fast. Sail here, sail there - board/sink. Rinse-repeat. I only played it for the achievements initially then got interested by the naval battles. This is the only part of the game that is decent. But, again, it's all a part of grinding machine. This game is absolutely worth checking out for the scenic experiences and all the quests/story that go along with it. You can tell tons of effort went into the world building and lore of this game. I also played for over 50 hours and didn't experience any real bugs.
