There are many other games on Steam that don't work properly on modern systems and should be withdrawn from sale. However, I still got this to work for a third time on a third computer in a decade when I wanted to replay it again. Too bad it's no longer available and I am sorry to hear some gamers struggled to get it to work on their systems, so kudos to whoever withdrew it.
